Yesterday, I went to get my hair-cut at a salon that I have been going to for about 2-3 years. The hair stylist that took care of me has done my hair in the past. I specifically told her that I wanted my hair exactly the way the model did in the picture that I brought with me. However, she cut too much off the back. I was very disappointed and didn’t leave her a tip. I honestly, almost cried because it’s the shortest I’ve ever had it in the back and I wanted to call her boss (the owner of the salon) to complain since she wasn’t working yesterday.

Should I just let it go and wait for my hair to grow out but never give them my business again?
I’ve gotten this exact same haircut done about a year ago at the SAME salon but it was done by her boss. I assumed she knew what she was doing cause she has cut my hair as well.

I would talk to the owner and show the owner the picture. You have a very valid complaint and at the very least should have your money refunded. I would not stop going there though, but I would request that I didn’t get that stylist again.

Im 22 years old. Im outgoing but shy. Im attractive and have a great personality. I use to be an exotic dancer but i didn’t like the lifestyle and i know its not a career. I don’t know what to do with my life. I’ve tried waitressing and retail jobs they never work out. I’ve tried modeling singing and acting. I don’t want an average boring life with a boring job. But i want a good career. I’ve tried getting my business degree but i lost interest in that. I recently went to cosmetology school and i realized i didn’t want to stand all day doing hair in a salon even though Im good at doing hair its not my passion. Im tired of wasting time and money on school. I never finish anything i always lose interest after a few months. I was thinking of going back to college to be a writer or do psychology. These are the only things that interest me now. I love writing i always have and Im good at it. Im tired of doing nothing productive with my life. I want to have a purpose. If Realtor, tell ‘em to shove off and find another Realtor as it is none of his/her business as long as you have the money to rent / buy what you want.

I live in East Texas, and I’ve decided to go with Reliant Energy. I’ve had nothing but trouble from TXU. -_-

Anyways, I live in a one-bedroom flat (second story above a hair salon) by myself. I’m not sure which would be better, the Reliant Energy Monthly eFlex Plan, or the Reliant PowerTracker?

Go with the power tracker. Not only is the monthly rate lower per kw, but natural gas is actually getting cheaper and cheaper. Thus, the monthly basis for the usage charge should drop accordingly and you’ll appreciate the savings. You don’t need the flex plan—you’re looking to spend the least necessary while preserving the right to cancel at will without penalty.

My ultimate goal and dream in my career as a stylist and makeup artist is to open up a studio salon. I have unique ideas and have had a business plan drawn up for two years, but keep adding to it as my ideas keep growing. There is no other studio salon like the one I have in mind around this area. I want to be the first to do this, but need to do some more homework first. I am a great stylist and makeup artist, but that doesn’t mean I’d make a great business owner.

So these question not only apply to salon owners, but for small-business owners as well: What can I do to educate myself more on opening a business? What are the #1 things I need to know before I do this. How can I make sure that my studio salon will not fail?

please read… i have a business plan made up. I have been editing it for the past two years. I have every little detail, cost, amount, etc. for what I would need in order to have an 8 chair salon.

Starting a small business takes a lot of courage. But, as they say, courage does not pay the bills. To be successful – to stay in business – you need more than courage. You need a combination of hard work, skill, perseverance, and lots of luck.

Some things you need to consider:
- “How can I support my family while I build up by business?”

I don’t know what’s going on.. Here’s a basic summary.

I’m originally from the Northern Virginia area. I started my first job when I was about 14, part-time working at a tanning salon cleaning tanning beds. (Glamorous, right? Hey, I was 14 and didn’t care, I just wanted some pocket money for the cinema!) After that, I worked at my dad’s office answering telephones, running errands etc.

When I was 17, I started waiting tables part time and working at a mortgage company part time as a receptionist and putting information in on loan applications.. I was making about $ 10 an hour, entry-level. I did this until I was about 19.

After that, I did some work in basic procurement for the government, U.S. department of the interior.. I got paid about $ 15 an hour there and worked for two years.

When I was 21, I moved to Philadelphia.. That’s when it started going downhill.. For a long time I couldn’t find ANY work. When I did, out of desperation, I took whatever pay I was offered, which wasn’t much. I started working as an administrative assistant and temping for about $ 10-12 an hour WITHOUT benefits. Less than I got in Virginia and as much as I had without any experience.

Fast forward a few years. I’m 25 now and turning 26 this week. In the past few years I’ve progressed from receptionist, to administrative assistant, to executive assistant and office manager. I’ve basically ran the whole office but my highest salary now has been $ 14.

I have a college degree (bachelors in business administration with a minor in humanities) and about 8 years of experience in what I do. I come to work everyday, I’m well liked, dependable, loyal, score in the top levels of any testing done at temp agencies as far as typing, MS Office skills, etc.

I write fantastic letters, have written up HR documents, done hiring, firing, warning letters, made spreadsheets, bookkeeping, I know QuickBooks, created PowerPoint presentations, went to conferences, trade shows, done nearly all the business correspondence for my bosses, done procurement, worked directly with clients, created marketing campaigns, designed post cards, brochures, mailers, updated websites, excellent at troubleshooting, basic computer repair, customers love me, well-versed in any manner of things around the office.. Basically, I’m a Jill of all trades.

So why am I not getting PAID more? I go on interviews and everyone is wanting to pay less than $ 30k a year, usually with no benefits. Needless to say, I’m struggling financially and the lack of health care or any money going into retirement is a big weight on my shoulders.

My one friend back in Northern VA with NO college and less experience, (and she even says she’s not as smart as me, which is mean, but she’s not generally as well-read, that’s true, I wouldn’t say “smarter”), recently got an entry-level job in HR with no experience and is being paid 45k.

My little sister who also had no experience got hired for a dentist’s office as an assistant and is getting paid the same as me.

I don’t get it.. I’m really getting frustrated. I need to make more money. I am looking into going back to college to get a different degree in the future, but how can I up my earning potential?

I’ve already tried taking additional classes in QuickBooks, Excel formulas, etc..

I’m just really disheartened. Is it common nowadays to earn less even with more experience?

I’m also worried about my resume. It is starting to look shady with my work history.

I’ve worked two places in the past twelve months. The first one was an IT company where I worked as an office manager for a year and then I had to be let go due to financial reasons where they had the operations manager do double duty.

The other place I worked as an office manager for a small construction company. That woman almost went bankrupt due to having too many credit card bills and not enough customers coming in. She let me go so she could hire her daughter who needed a job.

The economy is so bad around here and I’m struggling to find a job to pay the bills. I’m just worried about my recent job history and how people will perceive it.

I’m also worried if I keep taking low paying jobs, if I’ll ever get a job that pays me enough because they always ask how much you got at your LAST job and base salary from there. I don’t want to LIE even though many do as far as salary but I have to work!

Apply back in Virginia and see it they are willing to pay better. Sounds like there is a glut of people in Philly who will work for anything just to be working. Go back to where you are on the higher end of the food chain and in greater demand. You have a degree, flaunt it. If you are experienced in QuickBooks, promote yourself as an expert but don’t fall for their “Pro-Advisor” program. I have been working on QuickBooks for over 20 years and know a LOT more than their certified Pro-Advisors. Promote yourself and be confident in yourself.

OK, you’re on the right track, but you have GLARING spelling and grammar problems. This reads like someone who has only been speaking English for 3-5 years.

For example:
“Design coffer shop” under the “Name”
“Design coffee shop it well began operations in November 2009, and we going to prepare the plans to undertake a small expansion.” Instead of “Design coffee shop will begin operations in November 2009, and we going to prepare the plans to undertake a small expansion.” You might even try “Design Coffee Shop will begin operations in November 2009. Plans also include undertaking a small expansion with 6-8 months of beginning operations.”

Also, what do you mean by “an assortment of other items” as part of you monthly income? Are these the cookies and donuts, or will you be selling the art as well?

You have Employee Taxes, but what about Employee payroll?

Where are you getting your start up capitol for renovations?

Do you money set aside for Rent?

Where in the country is this shop going to be? This will greatly affect your income and expenses.
